In a shocking resolution, Baltasar ‘Bello’ Ebang Engonga has been acquitted of all sex-related charges by the Equatorial Guinea’s Supreme Court, which unarguably, marks a significant development in a highly publicized and controversial case. The court dismissed of all charges related to the leaked intimate videos, citing lack of evidence and confirming consent among all involved parties.

The verdict underscores key legal and ethical considerations with even political insinuation. Ebang, who became an instant internet sensation once the intimate videos were leaked, is also a great-nephew of Equatorial Guinea’s President Obiang, with some people now alleging executive interference to give him a soft landing, in order to diffuse the critical focus on the extended family.

The court ruled that all participants in the videos were consenting adults, and medical tests showed no transmission of sexually transmitted diseases by Mr. Engonga. This played a pivotal role in affirming his innocence.

Surprisingly, some married men expressed gratitude to Mr. Engonga, as the videos exposed infidelities that influenced decisions about divorce. This reaction highlights complex social and familial dynamics brought to light by the case.

Mr. Engonga condemned the leak of the videos, labeling it a severe invasion of privacy. He announced plans to sue those responsible for the dissemination, emphasizing the emotional toll it took on his family, especially his wife.

Before his arrest, Mr. Engonga led the National Financial Investigation Agency, tackling issues like money laundering. However, his detention on October 25 on allegations of embezzlement cast a shadow over his professional record. These charges remain unaddressed by him publicly.
