Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, recently donated over N100 million to the Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, in an inspiring act of giving back to the community.

The young artist referenced the Biblical passage Ecclesiastes 11:1, which says, “Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days,” to express his gratitude to the church for the support his family received after the death of his father, the family’s breadwinner.

Rema, who made a donation of N105 million during a Sunday meeting, recounted a difficult period in his life when he was just eight years old and his family felt abandoned. He expressed deep appreciation for the church, particularly Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, who set up a petty trading business for his mother
to help sustain the family.

Reflecting on that time, Rema stated, “When I was eight years old and lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. I remember at the time, Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opened a shop for my mum, and that was what she managed to take care of us.”

Rema emphasized that his donation was not for personal recognition but to honor God, saying, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.”

The donation was thoughtfully allocated across different areas of the church’s needs: N40 million was designated for infrastructure improvements, N20 million for the distribution of the church’s daily devotional, “Rhapsody of Realities,” N25 million for the teens’ church infrastructure, and N20 million to support widows in the congregation.

This act of generosity coincides with Rema’s return to his hometown in Benin for his highly anticipated homecoming concert. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of gratitude and giving back to those who have provided support during challenging times.
