Dakolo Lambasts Pastor Lazarus For Saying Churches Shouldn’t Pay Gospel Singers

A few days ago, at a special church programme, Pastor Lazarus had told his congregants and listeners that gospel singers should not ask for money to perform at church events, rather that they should trust God to provide for them.

While many people see this suggestion as controversial given the logistics and other preparations entailed in such events, Timi Dakolo thought the pastor was only gaslighting and at best, hypocritical. He disclosed that the pastor is alleged to charge students not less than $150 USD or equivalent to attend his school, that’s supposedly a Christian school, per session, depending.

Dakolo highlights that the pastor’s call was unfair. He noted the pastor, while making money from teaching people about God, he is telling gospel singers not to make money from singing about God.

Dakolo queried why the pastor can make money from preaching the Gospel, but the gospel singers cannot?

While many creative artistes and gospel singers are miffed by the pastor’s suggestion, the social media space is buzzed with different comments decrying the idea, which many have aptly labelled a ‘monkey-dey-work, baboon-dey-chop syndrome in the church. The comments do not seem to support the pastor’s idea, given the liquidity squeeze hitting all sectors.
