Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has strongly dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu has ceded political control of the state to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The governor, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remarks on Monday during a stakeholders’ rally in Abakaliki, the state capital, organised to endorse his re-election and that of President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

According to reports, some allies of the former Rivers State Governor have been circulating claims that President Tinubu has handed over Ebonyi State to Wike and his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing the gathering, Governor Nwifuru said:
“Some people are going around and saying that they discussed with President Tinubu and that the president has given Ebonyi to PDP. They said Nyesom Wike is their leader and that Wike said the president has given Ebonyi to him. And we say to them, ‘eeyaah’!”

The governor warned against any attempt to undermine the APC’s hold on the state, declaring that Ebonyi “is not for sale.”

He further vowed to resist such moves aggressively, stating:
“We are not afraid. We only hold ourselves because our people are with us. Nobody should push us because we have all it takes to consume whoever is trying us; we have all it takes to destroy whoever is trying us.”

Nwifuru reaffirmed the loyalty of Ebonyi people to the APC, adding that anyone who tests the party’s resolve would face a “very funny” outcome.

Nyesom Wike, a prominent PDP figure, has been a vocal supporter of President Tinubu’s administration, even declaring himself the “number one supporter” of the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election. His position has continued to generate tension within the PDP.

The Ebonyi governor’s remarks come amid growing political realignments and horse-trading as various parties and individuals position themselves for the 2027 polls.

A video of Governor Nwifuru’s speech has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread reactions.

Political observers view the development as another indication of the intense power play and alliance formations already shaping the build-up to the next general elections.
