The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Daniel A. Noah Osa-Ogbegie, has resigned his membership of the party, citing the overriding need to contribute to progress and stability in Edo State.

In a statement titled “That Edo May Win” released on Wednesday, March 12, 2026, Osa-Ogbegie a legal practitioner said the decision followed extensive consultations with friends, associates, political leaders, members of his immediate family and community.

He explained that politics, at its highest form, must remain a vehicle for genuine service to the people, adding that circumstances sometimes require political actors to reassess their platforms to continue making meaningful contributions to society.

“My years within the PDP were marked by valuable experiences and relationships which I will always appreciate. I remain grateful to leaders and members of the party who worked tirelessly in pursuit of democratic ideals and in the quest to build a better Edo State,” he stated.

Osa-Ogbegie, however, expressed concern over the state of the opposition space in Nigeria, noting that it has struggled to organise itself with the clarity, cohesion and forward momentum required to provide a credible alternative and strengthen democracy.

He pointed out that with only a few weeks to the close of party nominations, there had been no visible expression of interest by credible aspirants on the platform of the PDP or other opposition parties.

“This development calls for sober reflection among political actors who believe in purposeful democratic engagement,” he said.

The former PDP spokesman said he had also closely observed the emerging administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo and concluded that supporting the government in the overriding interest of Edo State was the most constructive role he could play at this moment.

Political Context Osa-Ogbegie’s resignation comes amid ongoing realignments in Edo State politics following the November 2024 governorship election, which saw the APC’s Monday Okpebholo defeat the PDP candidate. Several PDP figures have since defected or expressed willingness to work with the new administration.

The PDP in Edo has yet to issue an official reaction to Osa-Ogbegie’s exit, but party sources indicate the leadership is aware of the development.
