United States 45th/47th President, Donald Trump, never one to shy away from offering candid opinions, recently delivered a kind of scorecard for his Cabinet and senior White House staff.

In a wide-ranging and exclusive interview held Friday August 1, 2025, at the White House, Rob Finnerty, host of the Finnerty podcast, asked President Trump to evaluate the performance of select officials in his administration. While choosing his words with care, Trump offered unfiltered insights into the individuals mentioned.
Notably, he praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio, declaring that Rubio was “born for this job.” However, the president, choosing his words carefully, these are his own words:

“Born for this job. We had a really nasty campaign in the 2016 campaign … and yet I respected him. I thought he was a great debater. I thought he was very smart. … He’s just a great guy. And he did something else that’s amazing. He got, essentially, a hundred votes” in his Senate confirmation. “He’s got 99, but, you know, the vice president votes, if you do the vice president. But he got unanimous on both sides. So he was able to get along with the radical left, and you could say the radical right. He was able to get along with everybody. He’s a very talented guy, Marco, and we’re really happy.”

The President was quick to clarify that his remarks were not meant to suggest that other members of his Cabinet were underperforming, but rather to share his thoughts on the specific names the interviewer brought up.
