United States basketball super star, LeBron James and his eldest son, Bronny James, made NBA history by debuting together as teammates for the Los Angeles Lakers during a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, on Sunday.

The highly anticipated moment occurred at the start of the second quarter, marking the first time a father-son duo played together in an NBA lineup. LeBron had a stellar performance, scoring 19 points in just over 16 minutes, while Bronny struggled, finishing scoreless with only one-shot attempt in his 13 minutes of play.
Reflecting on the historic moment, LeBron, who celebrated his 39th birthday the day before, expressed deep pride and emotion, emphasizing how significant it was for his family. Having grown up without a father, he described the experience as surreal and likened certain moments on the court to being in “The Matrix.”
“It was cool for both of us, especially our family,” said LeBron James. It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget. As a father, it means everything. For someone who didn’t have a dad growing up, to be able to influence my son and create these moments together is one of the greatest things a father could hope for”, said LeBron.

He also highlighted how playing with his son has reignited his passion for the game as he enters his 22nd season.
According to LeBron, “It’s a lot of excitement and pure joy to come to work every day and see him continue to grow. We push each other and our teammates, and it’s just a very joyous moment for our family.”
Lakers coach J.J. Redick celebrated the historic moment, praising both LeBron’s longevity and Bronny’s hard work to reach this point in his career. Although Bronny is expected to spend much of his rookie season in the G-League, he has embraced the opportunity to grow and use criticism as motivation to improve.

“I’m just taking all that criticism and backlash and turning it into something that can fuel me,” said Bronny.
The Lakers will begin their 2024-2025 regular season with a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 22.
