The Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative (APRI) a Road Traffic Safety focused Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his prompt response to the distartededly tanker fire disaster that occurred in Niger State that claimed over 80 lives with many injured and hospitalised, over the weekend.

Recall that the victims were caught in the web of the fire disaster while scoping fuel from a fallen Tanker.
Reacting to the incident in a press statement made available to Journalists in Abuja, endorsed by the Executive Director of APRI, Amb. Fidelis Nnadi, who stressed that the incident could have been prevented and avoided if the emergency rescue operation team were established to respond towards preventing and responding to such disaster when they occur within the highways and public places.

Nnadi, however, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for showing compassion to the victims and ordering an investigation on the incident.
Lamenting further, Amb. Fidelis Nnadi recognised the President’s intervention as remarkable, considering that past Presidents were short of action over road crash incidents on our highways where lives are lost daily caused by road crashes.

“We must continue to advocate for political will for government at both Federal and State level to improve in the funding and supporting road traffic and safety agencies with the necessary capacity building with equipment of operational/patrol vehicles for optimal discharge of their duties to save lives of road users, ” Nnadi lamented.
“The statistics of Nigeria road crash deaths and injuries are not impressive and should be seriously tackled with necessary implementable policies without delay.

“The State Governors should wake up to acknowledge the negative economic impact of road crashes and allocate adequate funding, enforcement officers, technology and patrol vehicles with emergency rescue operatives on all the Federal and State Roads to mitigate the carnage of road crashes.
