The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday, March 6, 2026, that Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets successfully struck and destroyed six Iranian ballistic missile launchers inside Iranian territory overnight (March 5–6).

According to the IDF statement:The launchers were armed and in launch-ready position. Intelligence indicated they were minutes away from firing a coordinated barrage toward Israeli population centres, including areas around Tel Aviv. The strikes were pre-emptive, carried out “just in time” to neutralize the immediate threat.

The IDF released declassified footage showing precision-guided munitions hitting the mobile launchers in separate locations across western and central Iran. Secondary explosions consistent with missile propellant and warheads were visible in the clips.

“The Israeli Air Force identified and struck six ballistic missile launchers that were armed and positioned for imminent launch against the State of Israel. These launchers posed a clear and present danger to Israeli civilians. The action prevented a large-scale attack and significantly degraded Iran’s ability to threaten our population centres.”

The operation is part of the ongoing Israel-Iran shadow war — now in open conflict phase involving repeated Israeli and U.S.-backed strikes on Iranian missile production, storage, and launch infrastructure. Israeli officials have referred to the broader campaign as part of Operation Roaring Lion (a combined U.S.-Israeli effort to degrade Iran’s long-range strike capability).

Iranian state media (IRNA, Press TV) acknowledged “limited damage” to military sites in the early hours but denied that any launchers were destroyed or that an imminent attack was planned. Tehran claimed most incoming munitions were intercepted and vowed “severe and painful” retaliation.

The strike follows Iran’s recent missile/drone attacks on U.S. diplomatic and military targets in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait, as well as the sinking of Iranian frigate IRIS Dena off Sri Lanka (attributed to a U.S. submarine by Tehran).

Israel has maintained a near-daily tempo of airstrikes on Iranian missile and drone facilities since the reported killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in mid-February.

The incident underscores the extreme volatility of the current Israel-Iran conflict, now in its fourth week, with direct attacks on military, energy, and diplomatic targets across multiple countries.
