Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has formally resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, citing what she described as disrespect and poor handling of her governorship aspiration during the party’s consensus arrangement.

In a resignation statement released on Monday, Prof. Obasanjo, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011, said she joined the APC “in good faith” and worked tirelessly to strengthen its grassroots acceptance across the state.

She revealed that despite pledging to respect the party’s consensus decision and engaging with the eventual candidate, the concerns of her supporters were “largely unattended to.”
“When disrespect is the only dish served, then one should leave the table,” she stated in her letter to APC leadership.

While announcing her exit, she expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ogun State APC Chairman, and Ogun Central Senatorial Chairman, Chief Soremi, for the courtesies extended to her.

Prof. Obasanjo reaffirmed her commitment to “service, justice, fairness and the continued development of Ogun State and Nigeria,” and thanked her supporters for their loyalty throughout the process.

The resignation adds to growing internal tensions within the Ogun State chapter of the APC as the party continues preparations for future elections.
