“No, I will rather go and focus on my business, my work, and my family”.

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, Channels Television’s Politics Today featured Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos. When questioned about aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s political network, Rhodes-Vivour sharply rejected the idea, stating:

“No, I will rather go and focus on my business, my work, and my family. That [aligning with Tinubu] will be a complete waste of time.”

While expanded on his life’s motivations, the ebullient politician emphasized that his political oxygen breaths Lagos, saying it centers on improving Lagosians’ lives and restoring the city’s former greatness.

He clearly rules out that any party that prevents him from maximizing Lagos’s commonwealth for its people is “a complete waste of time” for him.

The young former LP candidate condemned the dominance of what he called “agberocracy”; politics driven by intimidation and thuggery reminiscent of prebendalism, saying Lagos would breathe easier if that dysfunctional system were removed.

Rhodes-Vivour has since defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the new darling of politicians across the country with shared camaraderie of discontent with the present government.

He views his move to the ADC as part of building a stronger opposition coalition to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 elections. He also affirmed that Peter Obi, his former presidential running mate from LP, was aware of his decision.

When asked if he plans to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election under the ADC banner, his response was simple:

“By God’s grace.”
