Apart of efforts to maintain approved development plan, the Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to residents of government-owned estates to desist from engaging in unwholesome practices that contravene the rules outlined in their allocation letters.

This warning follows a surge in reported cases of energy theft, neglect of shared facilities, non-payment of statutory estate dues, and other violations.
The Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, highlighted these issues during an enforcement exercise at the Lateef Kayode Jakande (LKJ) Gardens in Igando, where some residents were implicated in energy theft.
Akinderu-Fatai expressed concern over the increasing trend of residents bypassing and abandoning shared infrastructure such as water systems and electricity, opting instead for individual solutions that disrupt the estate’s planned landscape.

He said, the ministry would “not accept situations where residents will choose to bypass and abandon existing infrastructure like water system, electricity and other shared services and choose to litter the estate with individual solutions which distorts the estate landscape’’.
The commissioner also condemned the actions of residents who tampered with or broke the seals of apartments previously sealed due to contraventions. He warned that such acts would attract severe penalties, as the government is determined to maintain order and preserve the integrity of its estates.
The Ministry of Housing has reiterated its commitment to addressing these issues through strict enforcement and ensuring adherence to regulations to protect the estate environment and shared resources.
