With sights on 2027 presidential election, on Monday, February 10, 2025, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accompanied by former Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Liyel Imoke of Cross River, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

While Atiku described the visit as a courtesy call, speculation suggests it may be linked to his political ambitions for the 2027 presidential election. A source close to the discussions hinted at a broader agenda, stating, “Yes, we are trying to see how we can collectively work together to salvage this country ahead of 2027.”

In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC), through its National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed the meeting as inconsequential. He labeled the participants as “indolent and lazy” politicians and emphasized that the APC is focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and strategizing for the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State on November 8.

He stated, “How can people who are in disarray be a threat to a solid political party like the APC?”

Nonetheless, this development comes amid ongoing political realignments, with opposition figures engaging in strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 elections. The APC has consistently downplayed such meetings, expressing confidence in its political dominance and the strength of President Tinubu’s administration.
