Nollywood actress and philanthropist Mercy Johnson-Okojie has officially accepted her appointment as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The announcement came via a statement and social media post by the actress on Thursday, February 20, 2026, where she expressed deep gratitude to the governor and vowed to use the platform to amplify the voices of Edo people, especially women, youth, and underserved communities.

Mercy Johnson-Okojie’s Acceptance Statement: “I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust Governor Monday Okpebholo has placed in me by appointing me as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy. This is not just a position, it is a responsibility to serve the good people of Edo State with sincerity, passion and integrity.”

“I accept this appointment with full commitment. I will work tirelessly to bridge the gap between government and the citizens, ensure the voices of the voiceless are heard, and support initiatives that uplift women, empower youth, promote education, health and social welfare in every corner of our beloved Edo State.”

“To my fans, family, friends and well-wishers thank you for your love and prayers. This is a new chapter of service, and I promise to make Edo proud.”

The appointment was formally conveyed in a letter signed by Governor Okpebholo earlier this week, citing Mercy Johnson-Okojie’s widespread influence, humanitarian work, advocacy for women and children, and strong connection to Edo heritage (she is married to a Benin man and has deep family ties to the state).

Governor Okpebholo’s Statement The Edo State Governor described Mercy Johnson as “a shining example of grace, talent and compassion” whose public appeal and advocacy experience will help strengthen citizen engagement and amplify government programmes, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Mercy Johnson-Okojie becomes one of the highest-profile entertainment personalities to hold a formal government position in recent Edo State history. She is expected to be sworn in soon and commence duties immediately.
