In a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday, NANS Senate President, Babatunde Akinteye, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to advocating for students’ rights while emphasising the importance of discipline, respect for authority and adherence to institutional regulations.
NANS Senate President Babatunde Akinteye condemned the student’s actions as unacceptable, emphasizing that universities must maintain mutual respect. While acknowledging students’ rights to self-expression, including social media use, he urged responsible and respectful behavior.
Akinteye restated NANS’ stance against students engaging in unlawful behavior, disrespecting lecturers, or tarnishing the academic community’s image. He called for a thorough, unbiased investigation into the incident at UNIZIK, emphasizing due diligence and fair hearings for all parties involved.
If found guilty, Akinteye advocated for appropriate sanctions in line with institutional regulations to deter similar behavior. He stressed the importance of maintaining academic environments as spaces of respect, learning, and professional engagement.
The outcome of the investigation will be a significant development in student-lecturer relations, going forward.
