National Security: House of Reps Vows to Support Army Achieve Its Constitutional Mandate

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has pledged to support the Nigerian Army in its effort to achieve its constitutional mandate to protect Nigeria’s vital national interest of defending her territorial integrity and guaranteeing security in the country.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, Honourable Abdullahi Mamudu made the pledge, when he led members of the Committee on a maiden familiarization visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja on Wednesday 8 November 2023.

Further in his remarks, Honourable Mamudu Abdullahi appreciated the effort of the Nigerian Army towards checkmating fledgling security challenges in the country.

The lawmakers, who were briefed on the operational and administrative activities of the Nigerian Army, admitted that the Service is confronted with daunting challenges and pledged to provide requisite support to enhance its capabilities.

Speaking during the visit, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja expressed the readiness of the Nigerian Army (NA) to partner the law making organ of the country in the discharge of its constitutional roles and the current operational efforts to stamp out insecurity in the country.

The COAS appreciated the Committee for its positive disposition in supporting the NA, which he stressed, has propelled the NA in the conduct of its operations, training and other activities.

Gen Lagbaja noted that the NA is satisfied with the feedback from the committee, maintaining that it has facilitated the redefining of ongoing operations of the NA.

The COAS, while pointing out that the nation is currently facing myriads of security challenges, assured of Nigerian Army’s determination to continue to expand its frontier of peace and stability across the country, by boldly confronting emerging security challenges in the geopolitical zones.
