The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested no fewer than 19 suspects and recovered a wide range of illicit substances during a major crackdown on drug joints in the Gezawa community, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, February 25, 2026, was part of the ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak”, aimed at protecting public health and preserving the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

Maigatari said:“In a decisive operation aimed at protecting public health and preserving the sanctity of Ramadan, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has dismantled several drug joints in the Gezawa community, recovered a wide range of illicit substances, and arrested 19 suspects.”

According to the statement, the raids were conducted under the command of CN DY Lawal following credible intelligence provided by a concerned community member. Operatives moved swiftly to dislodge the criminal activity.

Recovered Items The exhibits recovered during the raids include: Cannabis sativa, Diazepam, Exol-5, The street drug known as “Suck and Die”, Rubber solution, Pregabalin tablets, Other assorted controlled substances. All recovered items are now in NDLEA custody as investigations continue.

Commandant’s Remarks CN DY Lawal emphasized the purpose of the operation: “Our objective is simple: to ensure that our streets are safe and that residents can observe a peaceful and satisfactory Ramadan. If some individuals are not mindful of their faith, their health, and the safety of their neighbours, we will act to protect the wider community.”

He added that the agency would continue to rely on citizens for credible intelligence to root out drug trafficking and abuse. The operation aligns with the directive of NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), CON, who has ordered sustained, non-stop efforts against drug syndicates nationwide.

Lawal urged members of the public to report suspicious activities or illegal drug trafficking to the state command, noting that timely and accurate information is critical to safeguarding public health, protecting families, and securing neighbourhoods.
