The Igue Festival is a significant cultural and religious event that symbolizes the key heritage of the ancient Benin Kingdom, and its performance is announced by the Oba of Benin for and in a location within Edo State, Nigeria.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, Mr. Osaigbovo Iguobaro, the planned event, scheduled to hold at the Muson Centre in Lagos, would deform the age long custom and traditional performance of the festival.
The Festival is a celebration of the Oba (King) of Benin’s ordination anniversary and is typically held annually. The festival is a time for the Oba to perform rituals and make sacrifices to the gods and ancestors, seeking their blessings and protection for the kingdom.
During the festival, the Oba is secluded for several days, during which time he performs rituals and communicates with the gods and ancestors. The festival also features various cultural performances, including music, dance, and acrobatics.

The Benin Traditional Council has obtained a court order restraining the Association for Cultural and Economic Renaissance of Edo (ACERE) from staging the event without the Oba’s consent. The public has been advised not to be misled by any group claiming to promote Benin culture without consulting the Palace of the Oba of Benin.
