British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean was crowned Best New Artist at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, February 2, 2026, capping a breakout year that saw her rise from underground acclaim to global recognition.
The 26-year-old Londoner beat a strong field of nominees including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and others in one of the most competitive Best New Artist races in recent memory.
Accepting the award on stage at Crypto.com Arena, an emotional Dean said: “This is surreal. Thank you to my family, my team, and every single person who believed in me when I was playing tiny rooms and open mics. This is for every young black British kid who ever felt like they didn’t belong in this industry. We belong here.”
Dean’s win comes after her critically acclaimed debut album Messy (released 2025) earned widespread praise for its blend of soul, jazz, R&B, and pop, with standout singles “Dive” and “The Hardest Part” becoming streaming and radio favorites. She also earned nominations in Best Pop Vocal Album and Best New Artist at the BRIT Awards earlier in 2025.

The victory marks the first time a British artist has won Best New Artist since Sam Smith in 2015 and adds to a growing wave of UK talent dominating global awards stages.
