The Ondo State Government has banned the operation of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. across the state as part of efforts to curb rising insecurity.
The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, announced the directive on Wednesday in Akure while parading about 70 suspects arrested for various offences.

Adeleye said the restriction was introduced to check the activities of kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements who often use motorcycles to carry out attacks.
According to him, the state had previously imposed a similar restriction, but the government has now reinforced it with a complete ban on Okada operations during nighttime hours.

“The restriction was enforced previously. It is now reinforced with a total ban on the use of Okada within Ondo State from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.,” he said.
The Amotekun commander noted that the directive takes immediate effect, adding that commercial motorcyclists have been given two weeks to register and obtain certified documentation before they can continue to operate within the state.

He explained that after the two-week grace period, operators would be required to pay N20,000 to the state’s Board of Internal Revenue for registration.
“After two weeks, they will be made to pay N20,000 to the Board of Internal Revenue for registration. We want all Okada in the state properly documented,” Adeleye said.

He also announced additional security measures, including a ban on cart-pushing in major metropolitan areas, as well as the mandatory registration of scrap metal dealers to regulate their activities.
According to him, authorities will also enforce the prohibition of displaying farm produce in unauthorised places across the state as part of broader efforts to maintain order and strengthen security.
