The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned proceedings in the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Thursday, January 23, 2026, for the hearing of the motion filed by the faction loyal to National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, seeking to restrain the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his allies from further interference in the party’s affairs.
The adjournment was announced on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, following a brief session presided over by Justice James Omotosho. The Turaki-led faction is challenging alleged attempts by Wike and the pro-Wike faction in the National Working Committee (NWC) to undermine the duly elected leadership and the party’s zoning arrangements.
Counsel to the Turaki faction, Barr. Joe Gadzama (SAN), told journalists after the session that the adjournment was necessary to allow all parties to file and exchange necessary processes, including affidavits and counter-affidavits.
“We are confident in the justice of our case. The motion seeks to protect the sanctity of the PDP constitution and the decisions of the National Convention that produced the current NWC,” Gadzama said.
The crisis has deepened since the November 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, with parallel claims to the party’s leadership, suspensions, counter-suspensions, and court actions.

Wike’s faction, which controls the majority of the NWC seats following defections and realignments, has accused the Turaki group of illegality and disregard for party organs.
The PDP remains deeply divided ahead of the 2027 elections, with analysts warning that the prolonged legal battle could weaken the main opposition party’s chances of presenting a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The January 23 hearing is expected to be a major determinant in the direction of the crisis.
