Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday took to the streets in Lagos, Abuja, and other parts of the country to protest the worsening security situation, despite a late-night meeting between President Bola Tinubu and labour leaders aimed at averting the action.
In Lagos, protesters gathered at the Ikeja Underbridge before marching to the Lagos State House of Assembly, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards demanding urgent government intervention.
In Abuja, hundreds converged at the Labour House, headquarters of the NLC, to voice their frustrations over kidnappings, banditry, and other forms of violence affecting citizens nationwide.
The protests were joined by affiliates including the Joint Health Sector Unions, Nigerian Union of Teachers, and National Union of Electricity Employees, underscoring widespread concern over the “degenerating security situation.”
The demonstrations remained peaceful, with heavy security presence to monitor the events.
