Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Gafaru Rasaki after he was caught in possession of four human heads allegedly exhumed from a cemetery in Sagamu.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

According to the police, the suspect was apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public who noticed suspicious movement around a local cemetery in the Makun area of Sagamu. Upon interception, officers recovered the four severed human heads carefully wrapped in a bag in Rasaki’s possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the heads were freshly exhumed from graves at the cemetery. The suspect has confessed to the act and is assisting detectives in further investigation, including possible links to ritual killings, sale of human parts, or other criminal syndicates.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as “barbaric, sacrilegious and a serious affront to human dignity.” He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and speedy investigation.

The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation. Possible charges include: Unlawful possession of human remains, Grave robbing / desecration of corpses, Conspiracy (if accomplices are uncovered) and Potential ritual-related offences under the Criminal Code.

The police have appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around cemeteries, shrines, or uncompleted buildings.

The traditional ruler of Sagamu, the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, has condemned the act and assured the community that traditional institutions will support security agencies to rid the area of such criminal elements.
