President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday night held a closed-door meeting with a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos. Folarin, who was the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State during the 2023 general election, confirmed the meeting in a post shared on his official social media handles.
The meeting comes amid growing speculations over the party’s possible direction and candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State. There have been reports that another APC leader, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, is being considered as a potential governorship candidate. Alli had also met with the President earlier.

Although details of Thursday’s meeting were not made public, party sources said the engagements may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations within the APC on its strategy in Oyo State. Folarin remains a key figure in the party, having represented Oyo Central in the Senate and contested the governorship election on the APC platform in 2023.
The latest development further highlights the intense behind-the-scenes manoeuvring within the APC as the party begins to position itself for the 2027 polls in Oyo State and other parts of the Southwest.
