President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will embark on a historic state visit to the United Kingdom from March 17 to 19, 2026, marking Nigeria’s first full state visit to the UK in 57 years and signalling a renewed era of deeper diplomatic, economic and strategic partnership between the two nations.

Hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, the visit will feature a full ceremonial programme, including A formal welcome with guard of honour inspection, National anthems and a carriage procession, Private audience with Their Majesties and State banquet at Windsor Castle.

On March 18, President Tinubu will proceed to 10 Downing Street for high-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The agenda is expected to cover Trade and investment expansion, Security and counter-terrorism cooperation, Migration management and diaspora engagement, Port development and maritime security and Climate resilience and energy transition.

The programme also includes A wreath-laying ceremony at The Cenotaph in Whitehall to honour fallen servicemen, Engagement with the Nigerian diaspora community in the UK and Signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda at Buckingham Palace.

Extensive security arrangements, road closures and ceremonial rehearsals are already underway in London and Windsor, underscoring the high diplomatic significance of the visit.

The last full state visit by a Nigerian head of state to the UK was in 1969. This visit reflects the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda priority of strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships, attracting investment, and repositioning the country as a key player in African and international affairs.
