The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the State House of Assembly to immediately discontinue the planned impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 9, 2026, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, urged the lawmakers to “shelve the impeachment notice” and prioritise peace and development in the state.
The APC’s intervention follows the Assembly’s announcement on Wednesday of a seven-day ultimatum to serve Fubara with impeachment notice over alleged gross misconduct and constitutional violations.
While Governor Fubara has yet to publicly comment on the latest escalation, sources close to the Government House indicate he is consulting with allies and legal advisers.
The APC statement emphasised the need for dialogue, warning that further political instability could undermine governance and economic progress in Rivers State.
“This is not the time for needless confrontation. We appeal to all parties to embrace peace for the sake of our people,” Nwauju said.

The development has intensified speculation about shifting alliances, with some analysts linking the APC’s stance to ongoing national realignments and the influence of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, a key APC figure in the state.
Security remains heightened around the Assembly complex and Government House as stakeholders monitor the situation.
