The Fajesinmi Royal Family, of Bilaro Olu Odo Ruling House has criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke, swift appointment and presentation of the Staff of Office to the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup. The family alleges that this hasty process disregards the customs and traditions of Ijesa and Yoruba land.

According to Prince Olufemi Fajemisin, who spoke on behalf of the Fajesinmi Royal family, he said, “the ascension of a monarch in Yorubaland is a sacred and spiritual journey, not a political process”, emphasizing that the traditional installation process involves spiritual rites, consultation with the Ifa oracle, and a purification process known as seclusion.

The family argues that by bypassing these time honoured practices, it weakens the cultural hegemonic essence of Yoruba kingship and undermines its sacred foundation.

They argued that the rushed selection and presentation of the Staff of Office has raised significant concerns among traditionalists, who have openly voiced their disapproval, and cautioned the governor to follow the age-longed practice of royal succession.

Some prominent royal families, like the Arimoro Royal Family, have also faulted the selection process of the new Owa Obokun, calling for executive restraint.
