According to Zagazola, an online security watchdog, the incident took place on Thursday along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area when the convoy transporting the governor’s family came under attack by gunmen. While attempting to fend off the attackers, a police escort mistakenly shot Atsi Kefas.
Although security forces acted swiftly to evacuate her and her mother, Jumai Kefas, via an air ambulance, Atsi Kefas succumbed to her injuries in the hospital after struggling with severe bullet wounds.

The governor’s family was traveling through a region increasingly troubled by banditry at the time of the attack. Security personnel later recovered the family’s vehicle, an empty magazine, and passenger belongings from the scene.
This tragic event highlights the perils faced by individuals traveling through regions plagued by insecurity and underscores the human cost of escalating banditry in parts of Nigeria. Lady Atsi Kefas’s death, a result of a misstep by her protector amid an ambush, further amplifies the gravity of the challenges confronting security forces operating in such volatile areas.
