The Edo tourism sector received a significant boost as United Nigeria Airlines prepares to begin flight operations to Benin City, the capital of Edo State. This move reflects the growing interest in Edo’s tourism potential and increased economic activities in the region.

The Benin route has seen a rise in passenger traffic due to the efforts of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in creating a conducive business environment, which has attracted both business and tourist visitors to the state.

The State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dr. Uyi Oduwa-Malaka, played a pivotal role in facilitating this development. Her ministry had engaged with the management team of Oba Akenzua II Benin Airport to establish a mutually beneficial partnership with the government aimed at enhancing tourism and investment prospects in the state.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Kabir Yusuf Mohamed, was represented by Mr. Muyiwa Femi-Pearse at a meeting with the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, which led to the positive outcome of this initiative.

United Nigeria Airlines’ decision to add Benin City to its flight routes was met with enthusiasm by the State Commissioner. The airline’s Managing Director, Obiora Okonkwo, recognized Edo State’s sustained investment in tourism over the past seven years, which has made it a center of attention.

Furthermore, he expressed the airline’s commitment to supporting the state’s economic growth by commencing flights into Benin Airport in the near future. This move is expected to further boost tourism and economic development in Edo State.
