Popular activist and content creator VeryDarkMan (VDM), alongside Afrobeat legend Seun Kuti, paid a solemn visit to the gravesite of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti at the Kalakuta Republic in Ikeja on Wednesday, February 5, 2026.
The duo was seen in a widely shared video kneeling in prayer and respect at Fela’s tomb, where they offered two rams as sacrifice in line with traditional Yoruba and family customs.
VeryDarkMan, known for his outspoken social commentary, described the moment as deeply personal. In a post accompanying the video, he wrote:
“Today we came to pay homage to the one who taught us never to bow to oppression. Baba Fela, your spirit is alive. We offered two rams in your honour. Rest on, legend.”
Seun Kuti, Fela’s youngest son and current leader of Egypt 80, joined in the tribute, performing a short drum ritual and pouring libations. He later shared:

“Family and friends come to honour Baba. VeryDarkMan has been consistent in his support for truth and justice values Baba lived and died for. This is more than a visit; it’s a continuation of the struggle.”
The visit comes weeks after Fela received a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammy Honors, which has renewed global interest in his legacy and sparked more pilgrimages to the Kalakuta Republic and his gravesite.
Fans and followers have flooded social media with praise, calling the gesture “powerful” and “respectful,” while others see it as VeryDarkMan aligning himself more closely with the Afrobeat activist tradition.
