Vice President Kashim Shettima has backed the use of a non-kinetic method to combat insecurity in the Southeast region of the country.
This is also in addition to other steps that security agencies are already implementing.
The Vice President gave the backing when a group led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa.
The delegation from the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P) visited the Vice President to present a proposal and invite him to the inauguration of the project, which proposes a non-kinetic solution to the issue in the South East region.
VP Shettima explained the merits of using a non-kinetic strategy to deal with the security situation in the South East, saying that it will spare the region from an everlasting war.
“Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition, a non-kinetic solution to the crisis in the South East must be explored and deployed. The most atrocious of wars are at the end of the day sorted out on the negotiation table,” he said.
“It is how you build bridges that will determine how far you go as a people and society. We have to reach out to the youths; we have to empower them. Once we empower them, the crisis, the agitation, and insecurity will vanish.”
Earlier in his speech, Hon. Kalu stressed the need for a non-kinetic strategy to tackle the region’s security concerns.
