The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N30 billion to support mechanized farming in universities of agriculture. This initiative aims to boost food production and promote sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.

Each of the 30 universities offering agricultural courses will be given N1 billion as a take-off grant to launch mechanized farming operations. The government’s goal is to cultivate 500,000 hectares of land, which will increase food production and availability.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open a retreat organized by the ministry for pro chancellors of federal universities.
He highlighted the importance of universities of agriculture owning an operating mechanized farming system. This project is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and development through agriculture.
In addition to the N30 billion approved for universities, the federal government has also launched other complement initiatives to promote mechanized farming and increase food production.
