The All Progressive Congress (APC) has suffered a major setback in Edo North Senatorial district with the decampment of Prince Akeem Zibiri to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Prince Akeem Zibiri’s decampment from the APC to the PDP marks a significant political shift in the Edo North Senatorial district. As a prominent figure within the APC and a close ally of Emperor Jarret Tenebe, Chairman of Edo APC, Zibiri’s move highlights dissatisfaction with the APC’s value system and recognition of loyal members’ sacrifices.

He said, “Let me be where I will have some value.”

Zibiri’s decision underscores a broader trend where the PDP, led by standard-bearer Mr. Asue Ighodalo, is gaining momentum. This shift is attributed to the PDP’s steadily rising profile and the perceived decline in the APC’s credibility.

Zibiri’s departure is expected to impact the APC further as he plans to bring his supporters with him to the PDP, which he believes will better recognize and reward their contributions, saying “I believe their value will be better recognized and rewarded in the PDP”, he said.

Prince Zibiri, fondly called ‘Akeem-the-Dream’, is known for his focus on economic empowerment and the prosperity of the Edo people, making his move to the PDP a potentially transformative event in Edo North’s political landscape. His decision reflects a visionary approach, aiming to align with a party that values excellence and loyalty, promising significant implications for the region’s political dynamics.

Prince Akeem Zibiri’s transition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was marked by a warm reception from the party’s leadership. He was welcomed by the PDP Gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, alongside the Campaign Director General, Hon. Matthew Aigbuhenze Iduoriyekemwen, and other prominent figures such as highly respected leader, Hon. Paschal Ugbome. The reception underscores the PDP’s strategic move to strengthen their ranks with influential figures from the APC, aiming to consolidate their position and enhance their electoral fortune in Edo North and beyond.
