The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction in Ekiti State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday outlined strict conditions for the recognition of Dr Wole Oluyede as the party’s governorship candidate for the June 20, 2026 election. The state chairman of the faction, Lanre Omolase, who described himself as the authentic PDP chairman based on court judgments and the ratification of its recent state congress, said the party had not yet formally recognised Oluyede as its candidate.

Omolase spoke at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, where he clarified the status of the party’s governorship candidate and listed conditions for Oluyede’s recognition. Recall that Oluyede, who emerged as a candidate under the Tanimu Turaki-led faction, had his nomination ratified by the Court of Appeal. He was also reported to have met with Wike in Abuja earlier in the week, a development interpreted by his supporters as a step towards broader acceptance within the party structure.

In a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Wole Oluyede Campaign Organisation, Idowu Adelusi, the meeting was said to have strengthened unity within the PDP and positioned the party as a consolidated force ahead of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election. However, Omolase insisted that Oluyede had not yet been fully integrated into the recognised party structure.

He said: “We wish to inform Nigerians and the good people of Ekiti State that Dr Oluwole Oluyede is currently aligned with the Turaki-led group, which has been restrained from parading itself as the national leadership of the PDP in any forum.

“It is important to state that Dr Oluwole Oluyede has not formally aligned with or publicly affirmed acceptance of the party’s leadership and structure, as required of any candidate. “We call on Dr Oluwole, should he truly desire to contest on the platform of the PDP, to formally submit himself to the party leadership and structure, and to reintegrate his group into the party from the ward to the state level.

“Should Dr Oluyede eventually be recognised as the flagbearer of the PDP, he must submit fully and without reservation to the party’s leadership, structure and constitution.” Omolase expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the forthcoming governorship and general elections, saying the development reflected the PDP’s internal strength and commitment to democratic participation and discipline.
