Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown down the gauntlet to his predecessors as Rivers State governors, daring them to publicly demonstrate tangible evidence of their achievements and lasting impact on the state.

Speaking during his ongoing “thank you tour” in Rivers State on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Wike singled out former governors, urging them to “show the people what you did” rather than engage in criticism without substance.

“Let them come out and show their achievements. Let them point to projects they executed that are still standing and impacting lives today,” Wike said, amid cheers from supporters.

The challenge is widely seen as directed at former governors including Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Odili, and Celestine Omehia, with whom Wike has had long-running political rivalries.

Wike, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023, boasted of his administration’s legacy in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, claiming many projects initiated by previous administrations were either abandoned or completed under his watch.

The FCT Minister’s remarks come amid heightened political activities in Rivers ahead of future elections, with Wike consolidating support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election while navigating local alliances.

Political analysts describe the challenge as a strategic move to shift focus to performance records and reinforce Wike’s influence in the state.
