Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri, one of the closest friends of the late Taiwo Hassan (popularly known as Ogogo), has opened up about the final moments he shared with the actor in the hospital before his death.
Ogogo, who died of stage-four cancer on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, was buried the following day in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday, Quadri described Ogogo as his “twin brother from heaven.”
“I have always said that we were twins from heaven, only born to different mothers,” he wrote.
Quadri recalled his last hospital visit: “I will never forget the last time I saw you at the hospital. You were lying on your sick bed, and when I saw you, I could not hold back my tears. You looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.’ And I responded, ‘Yes, Amen.’

“A few minutes later, you asked me to give you the bottle of water on the table. I gave it to you, and you drank from it. Then you looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, can you see that I drank the water, even though I ate this morning?’ You asked the doctors to confirm whether it was true that you had eaten that morning, and they confirmed it.
“At that moment, I said ‘glory be to God’. My hope and faith became even stronger. But the doctors only advised us to remain prayerful.”

The late actor’s full real name is Taiwo Babatunde Hassan. “Ogogo” is not his birth name but a traditional Yoruba oriki (family praise name) that he adopted as his stage identity.
He was born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State. He began his professional acting career in 1981 while still working as an auto mechanic with the Lagos State Water Corporation. He initially performed as an Akede Oba (praise chanter), earning the early nickname “Olohun Iyo” for his skill in reciting the oriki of kings and chiefs.

He combined acting with his civil service job until 1994, when he resigned to become a full-time actor.
His earliest stage production was the play Nkan Omo Olu Ibadan in 1982. One of his first films was Atitebi (around 1989). He produced his first movie, The Wicked Boy, in 1993. He later gained widespread recognition with the 1996 film Owo Blow, directed by Tade Ogidan.

Quadri and Ogogo shared one of the closest bonds in the Yoruba film industry. They met in the late 1970s and co-founded the influential Odunfa Caucus in 1986 alongside other colleagues. Quadri served as chairman while Ogogo was his deputy.
Their friendship spanned more than four decades. Although they experienced a temporary rift at one point, it was later resolved, and they remained extremely close until Ogogo’s death. At the funeral in Ilaro, Quadri was seen weeping uncontrollably.

Ogogo appeared in over 300 films during a career that lasted more than four decades and was widely respected as a gentleman and “man of the people” in the industry.
