Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, celebrated his 51st birthday with an intimate gathering in Lagos, where he gave guests a preview of his forthcoming album, Oldest Young Man.
The celebration, held on Saturday, September 19, in Victoria Island, brought together members of 2Baba’s family, friends and notable figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry. Among those present were music executives Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo “D1” Adeneye, as well as artistes including Wande Coal, African China, Faze, Tony Tetuila and Spyro, alongside comedian Ayo Makun and actor Jide Awobona.

The album listening session gave invited guests an early opportunity to hear songs from Oldest Young Man ahead of its official release. The project adds to a career that has spanned decades, from 2Baba’s days with Plantashun Boiz to his established solo career.
The birthday weekend had begun a day earlier, on September 18, when 2Baba released “Mental,” featuring singer Fave. According to his manager and partner, Mallam Yankee, the single was released to coincide with the singer’s birthday and represents another connection between the veteran artiste and a younger generation of music listeners.
The Lagos celebration also marked the launch of 2Baba Jollof, a new food business introduced by the singer as part of his expanding ventures outside music.

One of the memorable moments of the evening came when 2Baba reunited with his former Plantashun Boiz bandmate Faze for a freestyle performance. The moment revisited a chapter of their careers that dates back to the late 1990s, when the group also included Blackface.
Born on September 18, 1975, 2Baba first gained national recognition as a member of Plantashun Boiz before establishing a successful solo career. His 2004 debut solo album, Face 2 Face, featured “African Queen,” one of the records associated with his rise to international recognition.
At 51, the singer’s birthday celebration combined new music, a preview of his forthcoming album and a new business venture, offering another glimpse into the next phase of his long-running career.
