Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, has entered the heated online debate comparing Afrobeats star Wizkid to the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, delivering a clear and firm verdict: “No one can be bigger than Fela.”
The controversy erupted after Seun Kuti criticised Wizkid and his fans for drawing parallels between Wizkid and Fela, prompting Wizkid to hit back on social media with the now-viral statement: “I’m bigger than Fela.”
In an exclusive interview with DDNewsOnline on Thursday, February 6, 2026, 2Face addressed the issue directly, acknowledging Wizkid’s massive global success while emphasising Fela’s irreplaceable cultural, historical, and revolutionary significance.
2Face said: “Wizkid is a phenomenon. He has taken Afrobeats to heights most of us could only dream of. He has sold out stadiums, broken records, and put African music on the world map in a way that benefits all of us. We should celebrate that.
But let’s not confuse commercial success with legacy or impact. Fela was more than a musician he was a movement, a philosopher, a revolutionary. He fought the military, spoke truth to power, and changed how Africans saw themselves. His music carried messages that are still relevant today. No chart position, no Grammy, no sold-out show can make anyone ‘bigger’ than that kind of influence.
