The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has called out the Federal Government (FG), to review its economic prescription to see if it is able to fix the development challenges in the country.

At a recent meeting of the North East Zonal meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee in Bauchi, Fintiri lamented that the policies are inflicting severe hardship on Nigerians, adding that the country is currently bleeding.

Governor Fintiri’s remarks highlight growing concerns about the impact of the Federal Government’s economic policies on Nigerians. His call for a policy shift suggests dissatisfaction with austerity measures or reforms influenced by international financial institutions like the World Bank and IMF.

Fintiri’s emphasis on Nigeria’s sovereignty in economic management captures a broader debate on whether foreign-driven policies align with local economic and social realities. Many Nigerians are experiencing economic hardship due to inflation, subsidy removal, and other fiscal adjustments, making his concerns relevant.

“Nigeria is bleeding. We are suffering. There is too much anger and the FG’s economic policy is not working,” he declared.

He warned that the continued implementation of ineffective policies would only deepen the suffering of Nigerians and widen the gap between the government and the people.

The governor urged the President Bola Tinubu to do away with policies that would push the masses to tears.

“Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” Fintiri declared.

Overall, Governor Fintiri’s concern is a rallying call for stronger advocacy for alternative economic policies, as PDP’s contribution to the broader political discourse to put interest of Nigeria above foreign policies that fail to take into consideration the peculiarities of the entities that comprise the nation.
