11 Nigerians Arrested in Thailand for Suspected Cyber Fraud & Online Scams

Thai police have arrested 11 Nigerian nationals in a major crackdown on suspected cyber fraud and online scam operations in the Thai capital, authorities announced on Friday, January 24, 2026.

The suspects, aged between 25 and 42, were apprehended during a coordinated raid in the Lat Phrao and Bang Kapi districts of Bangkok. Police recovered Multiple laptops and smartphones used for fraudulent activities, Over 200 SIM cards, Large quantities of fake identity documents, Bank cards and cryptocurrency wallets linked to the operations and Cash and luxury items believed to be proceeds of crime

According to Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and Immigration Police, the group is alleged to have been involved in romance scams, business email compromise (BEC) frauds, and impersonation of officials to defraud victims in Europe, North America, and Asia.

The suspects reportedly operated sophisticated call centres, using social media, dating apps, and fake investment platforms to target victims, with losses believed to run into millions of dollars.

All 11 individuals have been charged with computer-related fraud under Thailand’s Computer Crime Act, money laundering, and immigration violations. They are currently in custody and face possible deportation to Nigeria after court proceedings, where they could face additional charges under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.

This is one of the largest single arrests of Nigerian nationals in Thailand in recent years for cyber fraud. Thai authorities said the operation was carried out in close cooperation with INTERPOL and Nigerian law enforcement agencies.

The Nigerian Embassy in Bangkok has been notified and is providing consular assistance to the arrested citizens.
