Fifteen members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, including Speaker Bathiya Wesley and his deputy Buba Jijiwa, have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the prolonged internal crisis rocking the party at the national level.
The mass resignation was announced by Speaker Wesley during plenary on Wednesday, February 26, 2026. All 15 lawmakers submitted individual letters conveying the same reason: the unending leadership tussle, factionalism and instability within the PDP nationally.

The resignations leave the PDP with a significantly reduced presence in the 25-member Adamawa House of Assembly. The affected lawmakers have not yet announced their next political platform, but speculation is rife that most may defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or other parties in the coming days.

The Adamawa Assembly was previously PDP-dominated following the 2023 elections. The mass exit further weakens the PDP in one of its traditional strongholds in the North-East. It comes amid similar high-profile defections in Kano (Governor Abba Yusuf), Rivers and other states, raising fears of a national collapse of PDP structures ahead of 2027.
Neither the PDP national leadership nor the Adamawa State chapter has issued an official reaction as of press time.
