Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mike Ozekhome over his alleged involvement in a long-running property dispute in the United Kingdom, popularly referred to as the “Tali Shani affair.”
The arrest came shortly after a Federal Capital Territory High Court struck out a three-count forgery charge earlier filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Sources familiar with the matter told DDNewsOnline that Ozekhome may be arraigned in court at any moment following his detention.
Court Proceedings Leading to Arrest during proceedings for Ozekhome’s arraignment on the ICPC charge, counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), applied to withdraw the case. Oyedepo told the court that the AGF’s office needed more time to review and consolidate issues involving different investigating agencies to strengthen the case.

Presiding judge Justice Peter Kekemeke struck out the charge. However, EFCC operatives arrested Ozekhome immediately after the ruling. Details of the “Tali Shani Affair” The controversy revolves around ownership of a property at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX. The dispute was heard at the UK First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) Land Registration under case number REF/2023/0155, with “Tali Shani” listed as applicant and Ozekhome as respondent. Retired Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni (now deceased) was also named.

Ozekhome claimed he received the house as a gift from “Mr Tali Shani” in 2021. A witness identified as “Mr Tali Shani” testified in Ozekhome’s favour, claiming he owned the property since 1993 and later appointed Useni as property manager. Lawyers for “Ms Tali Shani” insisted she was the rightful owner and tendered documents including an obituary announcement, National Identification Number card, ECOWAS passport and phone records and The tribunal dismissed all claims, holding that neither “Mr” nor “Ms” Tali Shani existed and that the documents tendered on her behalf were fake.
