The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, reaffirming its ideological alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

APGA National Chairman Sly Ezeokenwa disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Ezeokenwa stated that the party’s National Working Committee had already resolved to adopt President Tinubu as its presidential candidate and would formalise the decision at the next national convention.

“The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the national working committee, had already taken the decision that we will stay aligned and we will still share the same accord with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and accept the idea of adopting Mr. President as our presidential candidate,” he said.

“Even prior to anybody’s declaration, the party maintains the position that it will stand ideologically aligned with not just the All Progressives Congress, but with the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President, and nothing has changed about that,” Ezeokenwa added.

He noted that the position aligns with that of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, adding that APGA has long maintained ideological alignment with both the APC and the president’s agenda.

Ezeokenwa explained that the decision is rooted in political strategy, stressing the need for broader alliances to enhance the South-East’s chances in national politics.
He pointed out that the region’s contribution of less than 10 per cent of total votes in the 2023 election highlights the limits of operating in isolation.

“If you look at the demographics of the 2023 election, the southeast contributed less than 10 per cent of the total vote cast in that election. So what it tells you is that to have a shot at the presidency or even the vice presidency or any top position in the country, you need a strategic partnership with our brothers from the North, South West, or even the South South,” he said.

The APGA chairman added that stakeholders in the South-East are increasingly pushing for stronger collaboration with other regions, including the North, South-West, and South-South, as part of efforts to secure greater political relevance and access to top national positions.

The development further strengthens the APC’s growing coalition ahead of the 2027 polls, as more parties and political groups continue to align with President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
