The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the bail hearing of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026, prolonging proceedings in a case that has drawn significant public attention. Presiding over the matter, Justice Darius Khobo announced the adjournment following Tuesday’s court session, where arguments had earlier been presented on the bail application.
The former governor is facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial crimes and abuse of office filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Counsel to El-Rufai, Ukpon Akpan, criticized the repeated adjournments, describing the development as “politically motivated” and expressing concern over delays in the judicial process.

El-Rufai was present in court, arriving at about 9 a.m. in a convoy accompanied by operatives of the ICPC and the Department of State Services (DSS). Security was significantly heightened, with movement restricted within and around the court premises. Supporters of the former governor also gathered outside the courtroom as proceedings were conducted under tight security.
The adjournment follows an earlier date fixed for April 21 for ruling on the bail application, which was ultimately shifted to June. Meanwhile, El-Rufai has previously alleged the existence of a “fresh plot” to implicate him in criminal activities and frustrate his release, warning of what he described as “malicious orchestrations” aimed at prolonging his detention.

He also referenced a February 12, 2026 incident in which he claimed there were plans to arrest him upon arrival at Abuja Airport from Cairo, describing it as the beginning of a troubling pattern.
The case continues in June as the court is expected to deliver its ruling on the bail application.
