President Bola Tinubu and Confederation of African Football [CAF] President Patrice Motsepe held a bilateral meeting in Kenya on Thursday to discuss deeper collaboration between Nigeria and CAF on football development and sports infrastructure.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a regional summit in Nairobi, where both leaders emphasized the role of football as a unifying force and a driver of youth engagement and economic opportunity across Africa.

Tinubu said Nigeria remains committed to partnering with CAF to expand football at the grassroots level, improve stadium facilities, and support youth academies nationwide. He highlighted Nigeria’s passion for the sport and its potential to contribute significantly to African football’s growth.

“We see football as more than a game — it is a tool for development, for unity, and for empowering our young people,” Tinubu stated. “Nigeria is ready to work closely with CAF to realize these goals.”

Motsepe commended Nigeria’s football legacy and pledged CAF’s support for initiatives that strengthen the country’s domestic leagues and national teams. He noted that Nigeria’s involvement is crucial to the success of African football on the global stage.

The two leaders also discussed Nigeria’s bid to host future CAF competitions and the possibility of joint programs focused on coaching, refereeing, and sports administration.
