A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years in prison for money laundering and fraud involving N33.8 billion linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Projects.

Justice James Omotoso found Mamman guilty on all 12 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court heard that Mamman, while in office between 2019 and 2021, conspired with ministry officials and private companies to divert funds meant for the two major power projects. Prosecutors alleged that he indirectly converted the money through several companies and bank transactions, using part of the proceeds for rent and asset acquisition.

The EFCC called 17 witnesses and tendered 43 exhibits during the trial. Mamman, who did not call any defence witnesses, had challenged the legality of the charges, but Justice Omotoso dismissed the argument.
