The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three security operatives in a brazen early-morning attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 16, 2026, at the prestigious policy training institution.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the police described the attack as deeply regrettable.
“Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the incident,” the statement read.

The Command disclosed that security has been significantly reinforced around the facility in response to the attack.
“Security reinforcements have been deployed, and patrols have been intensified around the general area by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah,” SP Alabo stated.

The police assured residents that calm has returned to the area and normal activities have resumed.
“Investigation is ongoing. The command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses,” the statement added.

NIPSS Kuru is Nigeria’s foremost policy and strategic studies institute, where senior public officials, including ministers, governors, permanent secretaries, and top military officers, undergo advanced leadership and policy training.

The attack is considered one of the most serious security breaches at the facility in recent years and has sparked widespread concern about the safety of critical national institutions.
