“I am a true son of Ogun State with traceable heritage,” he said.

Speaking on the long-standing Ogun West agenda, Adebutu recalled that he had supported the cause since 2011 and 2015 when he backed Hon. Gboyega Isiaka (GNI), and again in 2019 when he supported Akinlade (Triple A), whose ancestral home is in Ipokia.

“There is still time for Ogun West to bring forth a true son of the soil. Omo Ogun, not an adopted Ogun political born. We all know where our father’s heritage is. Ekiti and Lagos biology cannot crown our vacant Ogun stool.

“The Ogun West agenda should not be seen as an opportunity to divide us. We are one big family. And it should not be one whose father was buried in Ekiti and mother in Epe. Our traditional rulers should not allow that to happen. We cannot allow ourselves to be enslaved in our father’s land,” Adebutu declared.

Responding on behalf of the Awori Obas, Oba Obalanlege welcomed Adebutu but noted that Ogun West, of which the Awori are a major part, has suffered marginalisation in the 50 years since the creation of Ogun State.

One of the Kabiyesis present emphasised that traditional rulers would not decide who becomes governor.

“All the Obas have one vote. It is the general public that will decide the next governor. But all of you aspiring are our sons of the soil.”

Oba Obalanlege further affirmed that Adebutu, as Lisaje of Awori land, cannot be written off, noting that he has consistently stood by the Ota Awori Kingdom community.

In his prayers, the Olota said:

“It is only God who knows the next governor of the state, but I pray that Hon Adebutu will come out victorious.”

Eyewitnesses at the palace confirmed that the Olota and the Awori Obas received Adebutu warmly and offered prayers for his success.
