Ado-Odo, Ogun State – August 19, 2026

The Palace of the Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo has clarified that the recent visit of the PDP Governorship Candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, to the Palace of the Olota of Ota should not be construed as a representation of all Awori traditional rulers in Ogun State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Chief Kazeem Akinsola Nasir [CFM, CABM, FERIN], the Ìríjú Oba of Ado-Odo and Secretary to the Palace of Olofin Adimula Oodua of Aworiland, the Palace said its attention had been drawn to reports linking the visit to an “Awori Obas Forum.”

The Palace categorically stated that while Ota is an important Awori town and the Palace of the Olota is respected within its traditional jurisdiction, the gathering was, from all indications, limited to traditional rulers within the Ota axis and Igbesa area.

“It therefore does not represent the totality of Awori Obas in Ogun State,” the statement said.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Palace noted that there is presently no legally recognised Awori Traditional Council or Awori Council of Obas in Ogun State that confers authority on any individual monarch to speak or act on behalf of all Awori traditional rulers across the State.

It emphasised that the Olofin of Ado-Odo occupies a distinct and historically established traditional position within Ado-Odo/Awori land and seats as the most senior monarch in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

“He cannot be subsumed under, or placed under the leadership of, any purported Awori Obas Forum that has no statutory recognition and in which the Olofin of Ado-Odo is not a member,” the Palace stated.

The Palace therefore urged members of the public, political actors, the media and all stakeholders to exercise caution and avoid attaching a broader meaning to meetings or visits organised by informal groups or platforms.

It stressed that participation by selected traditional rulers in any political engagement should not automatically be presented as the collective position of the entire Awori traditional institution.

The Palace of the Olofin Adimula reaffirmed its commitment to the unity, peace, development and preservation of Awori heritage, while insisting that the historical and legally recognised status of individual traditional institutions must be respected.
