…We’re investigating the authenticity of the video – FCT Police
A video trending on social media like wildfire evening of Tuesday, February 28, alleged that the Nigerian Police swooped on a residential building at No. 15, Ganges Street, Maitama, Abuja and arrested some suspects believed to have been tampering with the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) that was used to conduct last Saturday’s presidential election.
The video caption alleged that a tip-off from unidentified sources said that the location was being used as a base to manipulate last Saturday’s elections led to the nabbing of the suspects.
Items said to be recovered include numerous BVAS machines and several laptops and desktop computers, as well as other technical materials.
DDnews sources said the raid uncovered physical evidence that linked Senator Sani Musa, a serving Governor and an ex-President to the IT company allegedly owned by Sani Musa, who is a former contractor to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
If it is established that the suspects were indeed able to hack the BIVAS used in the presidential election, that’s sure a big credibility challenge to INEC leadership that had regaled Nigerians with assurances of transparent process and hack-proof devices.
However, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said it is investigating the authenticity of a video making the rounds on social media alleging that its operatives arrested suspected manipulators of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System in Abuja on Tuesday.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said, “We don’t understand why some media platforms have been publishing the story without confirming its authenticity from the police.
“We can’t ascertain the identity of those seen in the video, and they do not look like our officers because our officers have been operating on camouflage uniform since the elections began.”
